Testing design details, comfort, and ergonomics on one of our latest projects - we use 3D prints to quickly try multiple variations. From our perspective as designers, one of the most exciting trends within the technology explosion commonly referred to as Industry 4.0 is that many of the new tools shrink the space between design and manufacturing. This makes the product development process more efficient. Before desktop 3D printing, third party prototyping services with longer lead times were required to prototype and test a design. Now, we can often achieve the same results in-house overnight. We use that advantage to create more iterative prototypes, and do so in tandem with the concept exploration phase.
