Monumental Design

Today we are looking back on a significant  project we designed for HIFIMAN, the amplifier of their flagship electrostatic headphone system, dubbed “Shangri-La”.

The adjective we used to inspire our image boards and concept sketching was “monumental”. This ultra high fidelity (and expensive) system needed to make a bold statement, and we achieved that boldness with an imposing black anodized aluminum chassis incorporating a cantilevered structure inspired by massive geological formations like cliffs and arches. Crisp lines and hard, smooth surfaces form the details of the design.

It was a rewarding project where we were able to showcase how design can shatter the limits of what is considered status quo. The Shangri-La amplifier is anything but!
