From the Archives – fabricating the first Capelli Stool in 1999. We created a museum quality prototype in my garage workshop when we were short-listed for the Asahikawa International Wood Furniture Design Competition. The first step was constructing a custom mold, which doubled as a router jig later in the process. Devising a jig to hold the molded halves of the stool for cutting on the table saw was essential for safety and accuracy. Identical spacers placed against the table saw fence after each finger-cut enabled us to precisely duplicate the interlocking feature of the stool.
