We Have a New Office-Mate
In a prior post we wrote about anthropometric data that has been made more accessible due the spontaneous collaboration of design and engineering teams across the world looking to address shortages and shortcomings of PPE during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Using this newly available data we have created a 3-D library of head sizes for our client, CGX and our design team. This library exists both digitally in CAD and physically in the real world to support our process designing EEG (electroencephalography) headsets. The range of sizes includes: small, medium, large, a long narrow version and a short wide version. These sizes are based on 3D scans from a NIOSH study of about 4,000 participants.
Shown in the video next to Peter is the medium head. If you look closely at the still photographs included, you will see the standardized EEG positions mapped onto our model. Having this information both digitally in CAD, and as hands-on printed models for testing the fit of prototypes has streamlined our design process and reduced back and forth fit adjustments dramatically.
