Lattice Stretch Test

We are collaborating with our client CGX to experiment with a new flexible material for MJF 3D printing.

As you can see, we’ve used lattices in the design of this strap. Typically, lattices are thought of as a way to “lightweight” a part. By constructing an internal lattice in certain areas, a shape can maintain its strength while shedding unnecessary weight.

However, there are other uses for lattices. We are using them to increase the shape’s stretch and flexibility as you can see in the video. The other key use for us is providing for airflow through what would have otherwise been a solid part.

Plus, they just look really cool!
