Old Stomping Grounds

Here’s a throwback to the days when tuning a guitar on stage couldn’t be achieved with a smartphone. Hands-free operation was critical. And, a musician needed a serious piece of equipment to survive the hazards of a live gig.

We did a lot of tuner design for D’Addario in those days, but our favorite has to be the Chromatic Pedal Stage Tuner (AKA Stomp Tuner) for their Planet Waves brand. This tank of a product was cast from solid magnesium. We gave it an easy-to-read, sweep and strobe interface with an oversized note indicator that you could see easily on stage in dim light.
